Mática Partners Group has been working in the field of Artificial Intelligence for over seven years, providing the market with AI-based solutions which, until a few years ago, focused on the implementation of Machine Learning models, Deep Learning, simulation models and/or natural language processing, among other approaches.
Today, it is a team of more than 85 people grouped into several companies — Mática Partners, Daus Data, OMMA Data, and Mática Venture Builder — and they closed the 2024 financial year with nearly five million euros in revenue.
In a conversation with Marc Serra and Juan Ramón González, founders and main shareholders of the Group, we talked about how to approach the new Artificial Intelligence revolution without losing sight of what they value most: the people who make up the team.
Today, AI – especially Generative AI – is a major hype. At Mática, you have many years of experience in this field. What has the journey been like up to this point?
Marc Serra: The rise of AI and the arrival of Generative AI, with tools like ChatGPT, BedRock, CoPilot, Gemini or Mistral, among others, have helped many individuals and organisations to understand its potential. But at Mática, we were already working with algorithms, AI and Big Data platforms long before that. That’s why adopting Generative AI has been a completely natural step for us. Along the way, we’ve learnt a great deal from it and, above all, we’ve come to understand how it can support both our clients and ourselves as an organisation.
Juan Ramón González: One thing was clear to us from the start: adopting this technology could not compromise our culture or the people who are part of this Group. Nor could it affect our quality standards, our best practices, our commitment to clients or our focus on security — which, in the end, are the key factors behind our success.

What led you to approach Generative AI differently from other companies?
JRG: At the Mática Group, we had been working with more traditional AI technologies for a long time when suddenly, LLMs and other forms of Generative AI emerged — a new technology that broke with the status quo.
From the very beginning, we saw an opportunity to approach it in two distinct ways. On the one hand, for our clients, applying it across a wide range of projects and solutions. But we also recognised that it could become a key driver to boost our own capabilities and productivity.
MS: And not simply as a support tool for our teams — as is the case with solutions like CoPilot or OpenAI’s recent Codex — but with the aim of complementing and strengthening our team. We didn’t want to create just a support system for professionals; we wanted to multiply the potential of the people who make up the Mática Group. That’s how Mátix was born.

In your publications, you often mention the “Máticas” and the “Máticos” — how do the Mátix fit into the team?
JRG: With Mátix, we are redefining the collaboration between people and AI, addressing the classic paradigm of “AI serving humans or humans serving AI.”
Current systems focus on boosting the productivity of development teams by providing assistants that increase the amount of code a programmer can produce. But no matter how much productivity improves, the human remains the bottleneck, as their capacity is ultimately limited.
MS: At Mática, we take a radically different approach: it’s the human programmer who enhances and improves the productivity of the AI, stepping in at points of conflict, uncertainty, and validating the output. In this way, AI becomes a kind of “near-shore” team — managed, coordinated and assured by the human programmer, just as a senior analyst would currently oversee a development team.

What impact does that have?
MS: What matters most is that we’ve increased our quality standards while significantly boosting our production capacity. It’s well known that the specialised AI workforce has very low elasticity — it doesn’t grow at the pace the market demands, making adoption more difficult. With Mátix, we have a fully elastic ecosystem of intelligent agents that cover every role in the data and AI project development lifecycle.
JRG: From the Mátix Architect, through the Mátix Analyst, the Mátix Developer, and the Mátix Testing Specialist — all of them capable of autonomously implementing required functionalities from requirements gathering to final validation tests. They follow the methodologies and guidelines established by Mática and are supported by a human “Mático” who validates, coordinates, and helps carry out the tasks using DevOps tools.

“The biggest challenge will be training professionals to coexist and collaborate with AI — and that’s precisely what we’re driving at Mática.” — Marc Serra
And with all this in mind, how do you see the future of Mática Group and its Máticas, Máticos, and Mátix?
MS: Personally, we’re very optimistic about our future. Thanks to the democratisation of AI, supply will increase, and many companies and organisations that currently struggle to implement it will finally have the opportunity to do so — and we’ll be ready to support them. The biggest challenge will be training professionals to coexist and collaborate with AI, and that’s precisely what we’re working on at Mática.
JRG: What’s more, our Máticas and Máticos will see two key aspects of their professional and personal lives improve: increased productivity will substantially enhance their compensation and optimise their workload — they’ll achieve much more in less time. Today, we’re already an attractive company for professionals in our field; tomorrow, we’ll be even more so.
MS: And if we’re talking about the future, here’s another big idea: we’d love for our Mátix agents to contribute to society — by paying into the national social security system.
